Remember when Wayne Gretzky was an Oiler?

I don't. I had the unfortunate fate of being born in the early 1980s. I missed the Edmonton Oilers glory years, which is probably why I am now a frustrated Oilers fan. I don't have 5 Stanley Cups to revisit in my mind. I don't have the glory days. I don't have the dynasty. I have nearly 20 years of frustration.

This blog is the reflections of an Oilers fan in 2008. I'm an Edmontonian, and Edmonton Oilers supporter, but I need somewhere to vent my frustrations as an Edmonton Oilers fan.

I was 6 years old when I heard that Wayne Gretzky was traded. I didn't quite understand what that meant at the time, but I do now. We dismantled a dynasty. We dismantled a legacy. We dismantled a team.

We still haven't recovered. The Edmonton Oilers have never truly rebuilt their team. We've been trying to recapture the glory days of the 1980s Oilers, and they're gone. They're gone because Gretzky's Gone.

You don't remember the glory years? I may have been young, but I remember watching the games, and I remember the excitement. Maybe this blog is directed to people like me.
